Witnesses await the start of the hearing

This morning, the House Committee on Education & Workforce held a hearing titled “Redefining Joint Employer Standards: Barriers to Job Creation and Entrepreneurship.” The title was fitting, as witnesses from the franchise industry testified about the extra challenges they have faced, due to the Obama-Era joint employer definition.

In the midst of Workforce Development Week, the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development held a hearing on “Helping Americans Get Back to Work: Implementation of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.” As President Trump shifts his focus to apprenticeship programs, witnesses Michelle Paczynski and Heath Berlin gave compelling reasons why they’re necessary.

Federal Judge Puts Brakes On Overtime Rule

Just 10 days before the anticipated implementation date, a federal judge in Texas halted the U.S. Department of Labor’s new federal overtime rule, which would have doubled the Fair Labor Standards Act’s salary threshold for exemption from overtime pay.
